Interim Rector
The Rev. Wayne Ray began serving as Interim Rector of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in September 2026. Fr. Wayne is a veteran of more than 50 years in ordained ministry. After seminary at the (Episcopal) Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA, and ordination, he earned a Ph.D. at the Ohio State University and spent a decade teaching at the university level. In his ministry, he has served churches in Kentucky, Indiana, Virginia, and Mississippi. He also spent a decade as the Episcopal Chaplain at Arizona State University and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
Fr. Wayne and his wife Susan Coleman Ray live in Slidell. They have one adult son, Stewart. Fr. Wayne’s claim to fame is that Bishop Shannon was his first assistant priest when he was the Rector of St John’s in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He says she taught him a lot more than he taught her! He is excited to join St. Michael’s.
